Our History

Immanuel Baptist Church was founded in 1894 on the corner of Grace and Bent streets in Elgin IL. Rev. Osborn was the church’s first pastor. In 1922 Rev. Stephens was the pastor and the congregation grew to 118 members.

We are a congregation that values our history. Therefore, we honor the spiritual disciplines and worship practices that have guided our church for over 120 years. At the same time, we are continually open to new ways of approaching God in worship and engaging our current multicultural community in ministry. Immanuel Baptist Church was founded as a center for reaching unchurched children for Christ. As it was then, today we seek to provide a friendly and safe place to teach individuals about God’s Word and to joyfully and creatively worship God’s presence as brothers and sisters in Christ. We are committed to the acceptance of all who seek to engage us in fellowship regardless of cultural and ethnic backgrounds. We always embrace diversity within our church community. We meet each person where they are in their faith walk, encouraging and ever-deepening commitment to Christ and Christian fellowship. Our congregation has a strong tradition of mission outreach. We advance the cause of missions internationally, nationally, and locally in our city neighborhood.

Our congregation practices intentional and responsible stewardship. We are committed to careful management and investment of the time, talent and resources that God has entrusted to us.
